Welcoming America is a nonprofit leading a movement of inclusive communities becoming more prosperous by ensuring everyone belongs. Whereas, the City of Winooski is proud to join Welcoming America in celebration of the 2021 Welcoming Week initiative, where neighbors across the country to affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusivity in their communities; and Whereas, the City of Winooski is proud to be the most diverse community in the state of Vermont and in our region of the United States; and

Whereas, Winooski’s success depends on making every resident feel welcome here. New Americans are a vital part of our community - bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas, starting businesses, and contributing to the diversity that we all value; and

Whereas, the City of Winooski proudly supports the important work of our partners such as AALV, USCRI, the Refugee and Immigrant Service Provider Network, the Winooski School District, AgeWell, Winooski Mutual Aid, and many others who continue to make refugee resettlement in Winooski a welcoming and successful process; and

Whereas, by recognizing the contributions that we all make to create a safe, healthy, connected community, Winooski sets a leading example on the local, state, and federal levels and; Whereas, the City of Winooski encourages our residents, visitors, businesses, faith groups, volunteers, and partner organizations to undertake meaningful initiatives of welcoming and inclusion beyond this resolution;

Now Therefore, the City of Winooski does hereby proclaim the week of September 19th as Welcoming Week, as we stand united to commemorate the strength, courage, and resilience of the millions of refugees around the world; including Refugees who have come to call Winooski home.
